Head or Heart?
We're all wired differently. Some of us lean on intellect and logic, and others of us rely on heart and intuition. As a couple, are you similar to or different from each other? I like the free personality test found at 16Personalities that comes up with a description of your temperament based on four continuums. It's worth reading that site's background and theory, here. What I've hinted at here is the "S/N" (obServant/iNtuitive) continuum, but with a nod to the "T/F" (Thinking/Feeling) pairing as well.
Whether you are wired similarly to your partner, or differently, you'll see that you will create a "dance" as you maneuver through conflicts that come up. Many authors have written about dealing with your dance; one of the most helpful books is How We Love by Milan & Kay Yerkovich.
Head
When you are in conflict with someone, you listen to reason, logic, and may debate like you're on a debate team. You are tempted to pretend to listen to your partner, but really, you're just formulating your next logical argument. Simply put, "YOUR way is THE way" to look at the problem. You have the solution all figured out, if only the other person would acknowledge that you're right.
Heart
When you are in conflict with someone, you put faith in "trusting your gut." You are tempted to pretend to listen to your partner, but really, you're weighing your intuition as more productive to solving the problem compared to the other's approach. You may also be hypersensitive to your need to be heard and complain that the other dismisses your perspective.
